Strategy for Open Electricity Grids
Strategy for Open Electricity Grids
Swedish local grid owners face numerous uncertainties. Therefore, Elinorr has studied various scenarios for the future. This aims to position the local grids to effectively meet the future needs of customers.
Local grids must plan and develop their operations in a way that maintains significant flexibility during a period of rapid change. The energy transition entails significant changes for Sweden's local grid owners in the form of new technology, greatly increased electricity usage, and new customer behaviors. With electrification and the substantial expansion of renewable electricity, the electricity grid has become the enabler for a society with zero CO2 emissions. At the same time, it challenges the way we have built and operated our networks so far and demands change. The developed strategy for Open Electricity Grids provides an overview of the current situation in the Swedish electricity market and the challenges and opportunities ahead to achieve a more open and sustainable system.
The action plan in the strategy aims to provide electricity distribution networks where end customers and market actors can connect and use all the equipment they desire. In these open grids, we create conditions for cost-effectiveness, reliability, and standardization.
